Operation Encompass

At Ash Hill Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils. To support this, we are part of a local initiative called Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and the police. It provides early information to schools about any incidents of domestic abuse that have been reported to the police and that may affect a child attending our school. This allows us to offer appropriate support as soon as possible.

The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are trained to manage these notifications. They receive the information in confidence and will use it to ensure that the child is supported sensitively at school. We aim to provide reassurance, practical help, and pastoral care where needed, while maintaining confidentiality and dignity for all those involved.

We want all parents and carers to be aware that:

  • We receive Operation Encompass notifications directly from the police when a child has been involved in or affected by a domestic incident.

  • The information is shared in strict confidence and only with key safeguarding staff.

  • The information enables us to provide the right care and understanding for the child, immediately and with discretion.

  • We have a duty to offer help and support to families affected by such incidents, and we can signpost to additional services where appropriate.
